The Gulf Coast Council of La Raza, Inc. (GCCLR) is a private non-profit 501 (3) (c) organization, that was founded in 1980 as a Charter Affiliate of the National Council of La Raza, Inc., now known as UNIDOSUS in Washington D.C.
The original mission of the GCCLR was to promote the Social, Economic, educational, Emotional, and Physical wellbeing of troubled youths and their families. However, today, our mission has been extended and has evolved to include the advocacy of Civil Rights for the Latino Community, the importance of voter registration and voting; collaborating closely with our National Affiliate and other non-profit agencies with similar interests, and is the state Charter Holder of the Dr. M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Open-Enrollment Charter School in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Dr. M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Charter School was one of the first Open Enrollment Public Charter Schools the State Board of Education approved in Texas in 1996.
The GCCLR has great pride in its Community advocacy and accomplishments and is proud in the salient and remarkable successes of the Dr. M.L. Garza- Gonzalez Charter School.
